Chapter 9

Laura

My stomach growled as I inhaled the scent of beef bourguignon.

“What is that?” a man asked as he came straight up to me outside Rock’s office.

I stopped with a gasp as I gazed up at him. He looked like a younger, slightly thinner version of Rock.

“It’s beef bourguignon.”

“Wow, no wonder he didn’t fire you.” He curled his lips in a way that wasn’t at all like Rock. And that smile . . . It felt like he knew something I didn’t.

“Who are you?”

“Just a young man becoming wiser every day. And I’d say my brother lucked out with you.”

“Brother? Oh, you’re Rock’s brother?”

His brows lifted. “He lets you call him Rock? I don’t think I was allowed to call him by his first name until I was twenty.”

“Okay.” I chuckled.

“I’m James, and you must the talented Chef Laura I’ve heard so much about.”

“Yes. Are you having lunch with Rock? If so, I can always come back.” I began to turn before he stopped me.

“Oh no. I have a date. Well, not exactly a date . . . more like admiring from afar.” He gazed up at the ceiling with youthful bliss etched on his features.

“Is Rock ready for me?” I glanced over to the door. I hadn’t seen Mia today, but I had been hidden away in the kitchen working out the staff menu.

“No, uh . . . I mean, yes he is. Told me if I run into you that you should just go in and get everything ready.”

“Great. It was nice to meet you, James.”

He turned and bowed, making a spectacle of slicing his arm through the air. As he stood, he said, “And the pleasure was all mine, beautiful lady.”

With that, he turned and strolled off. Wow, James was nothing like his brother.

I chuckled and went over to Rock’s office door, tapping it with my foot as I gripped the food tray.

There was no response. I shrugged; James had said to go right in. I managed to turn the knob just enough with my arm and bump the door with my hip so I didn’t have to put the tray down to open the door.

Once inside, I closed it using my hip once again. Rock wasn’t at his desk, but I heard water running coming from the bathroom and figured he’d be out any minute.

Placing the tray on the desk, I grabbed a strawberry from the fruit bowl and was about to pop it into my mouth when the bathroom door opened. A wave of warm, humid air wafted out, and I turned to witness the most incredible sight.

Rock stood there, his hair wet and tousled, his body dripping. The only thing covering him was a white towel being held against his dick. It wasn’t even wrapped around him; only his hand held up the wet piece of cloth.

For a brief moment I had hoped the towel would slip through his fingers. Like it suddenly became the heaviest thing in the world, and he just couldn’t hold it up any longer.
